| Cleveland and Its Streetcars |
| By James R. Spangler and James A. Toman |

| Cleveland Landmarks Press authors Jim Spangler and
Jim Toman have authored a new book for Arcadia Publishing’s Images
of America series. Cleveland and Its Streetcars is a
photographic essay of Cleveland during the first half of the 20th
century when streetcars were the way most people moved around town.
With sections devoted to the city’s east side, west side, and downtown
areas, the book’s 217 photos—most never before published—reveal
the neighborhoods through which the city’s many streetcar lines
traveled. From Kamm’s Corners to Euclid Beach Park, and from Garfield
Park to the East Ninth Street Pier, vintage photographs show the
city as it was during the heyday of the streetcar and illustrate
many facets of the culture and way of life during that period. The
book, of course, also shows the many different kinds of streetcars
that plied the Cleveland streets, from the center-entrance cars,
to the Peter Witts, to those long articulated cars that served the
busy Euclid Avenue line, and to the post-war PCCs. |
